In Germany, the gliding season has just begun. So thoughts of flying in Namibia may still be far away. But for a successful season in the southern hemisphere, you have to think far ahead and organize everything. In fact, everything is already in place for the service at the lodge: Michael Stoltze and Dirk Skura are in charge of the flight office. In the main time they experience still another support. And if something breaks down, Manfred Dieterle steps into action in the workshop. Many already know him from the previous season. In the kitchen, Louis is once again responsible for an outstanding menu. Corona should no longer be a factor at the beginning of November. Everyone in Germany and Europe should be vaccinated through by then. And the staff of the lodge will be too! Nothing then stands in the way of a carefree gliding vacation. Who the administrators Luzaan and Rodrik van Neel will welcome as guests has already been decided to a large extent. Most of the interested parties have already registered. The containers have been fully booked for weeks. And with the charter planes it is high time for a reservation, only few time windows are still open. For those with an interest in safaris: the giraffes and zebras have now been joined by a herd of impalas.
Flying 1000 kilometres on Christmas is a great gift for any pilot. Four pilots fulfilled this wish with over 1100 kilometres on a day with unexpected possibilities. Simon Schröder and Max Schäfer flew a whole 1400 kilometres with the EB28 on Christmas Eve. In the following, they report on their flight.
Our Line-Boys are doing a valuable job again this year. During the season, when there is always a lot of activity, the experienced Line- Boys (easily recognisable by their red clothing) contribute to smooth flight operations.
