Despite mixed weather forecasts, some pilots ventured into the air in Bitterwasser yesterday. An approaching sandstorm, unfortunately, meant a early landing - but just in time for coffee and cake. The day ended on a relaxed note with a beautiful sunset.
Yesterday's flying day in Bitterwasser was characterized by changeable weather. An approaching sand storm forced our pilots to return early - but everyone landed safely and in time for the relaxing part of the afternoon: coffee and cake in a sociable atmosphere. Two guest pilots from other bases, who had to change their plans due to the weather and landed in Bitterwasser, were also warmly welcomed into the group and were able to enjoy a short coffee break with us. The day ended on a relaxed and sociable note, despite the limited flying opportunities. At the end, we were surprised by a beautiful sunset and softly illuminated clouds. We are now looking forward to better weather in the coming days, which will hopefully allow more flying time and longer distances.
The SSN (Soaring Society of Namibia) website states that pilots holding a SPL license together with a valid LAPL medical may fly gliders with European registration in Namibia. Previously, the more complex Class 2 ICAO medical was required. The SSN point out that no definitive, valid statement can be made for neighbouring countries such as Botswana or South Africa.
For glider owners: Please check with your insurance company that this is in accordance with your insurance contract.
