On November 1, 2024, the time had finally come: the new gliding season in Namibia started with a big kick! Four flights over 1000 km in under seven hours. Lots of beaming faces and great joy for everyone involved - the season could have hardly got off to a better start!
The happy faces as the pilots returned spoke for themselves. The start of our new season could hardly have got off to a better start. Despite a moderate weather forecast at the morning briefing, we were able to record four flights of over 1000 kilometers out of 19 take-offs. One long-standing guest proudly reported in the evening that this had been his best flight in Namibia in over 15 years.
With such a great start, we are looking forward to the coming weeks and are excited about the many more highlights coming up this season.
The Flying Lodge Bitterwasser team would like to thank everyone who made this first day such a great success. Stay tuned - the adventure is only just beginning!
Although the season in Bitterwasser seems to be coming to an end in mid-January, the weather is at its best. Pilots from all over the world enjoy impressive thermals, breathtaking cross-country flights over 1000 km and a unique community.
The last season 2023/24 ended with a spectacular highlight for Dmitry Borovyk and Anton Minskii: on the very last day, they managed to fly around three declared turning points that cover an impressive distance of 1250 kilometers. This extraordinary achievement earned them the privilege of planting a palm tree in Bitterwasser - an honor only bestowed on the best pilots. One year later, the two are now returning to Bitterwasser to plant their palm tree in a festive ceremony in keeping with the old Bitterwasser tradition.
