1000 km Training Camp Bitterwasser 2025 Takes Off
By Luc Stalman, Team Captain on behalf of the Wilfried Grosskinsky Foundation
The annual 1000 km training camp in Bitterwasser has once again started exceptionally well.
Baptiste is no stranger to the world of gliding: his spectacular flights over the Mediterranean – especially those towards Corsica – have made him famous. He flies professionally for Air France as a Boeing 777 pilot. But his great passion is gliding, especially in the French Maritime Alps.
Baptiste impressed us with his skill and ingenuity right from his first two flights. In the most difficult conditions, he managed flights of over 800 kilometers. His flight on November 13, 2025 (https://www.weglide.org/flight/959546) is particularly noteworthy.
He was the only pilot in Namibia to fly over 800 kilometers with his friend Alexandre Rank.
After takeoff, they first headed west and then along the ridge to the south until they reached Helmeringshausen.
From there, the difficult return journey to Bitterwasser began.
An impressive flight, especially considering that on that day in Namibia, only local flights of up to 300 kilometers were carried out.
In the following days, Baptiste really turned up the heat and completed five long flights between November 16 and 20. In the evenings, the odometer always showed more than 1,000 kilometers.
We are delighted to have Baptiste here and look forward to continuing to admire his flights over Namibian soil.
