Yesterday, many of our pilots flew 1000 km in perfect conditions and returned just in time for sunset. The evening was rounded off with a traditional barbecue and delicious food from our chef Lize van der Merve.
Under ideal weather conditions, the pilots were able to make full use of the thermals and achieved impressive flight performances. Many completed impressive distances of over 1000 kilometers - a highlight for the pilots, who made the most of every second of the flying conditions.
Just in time for sunset, all the pilots returned safely and the sun, which set in warm colors over the planes, provided a wonderful finale to a successful day of flying.
To round off the day, everyone gathered for the traditional barbecue. As every Saturday, Lize van der Merve took care of everyone's physical well-being with a selection of delicious starters and desserts. The fresh, lovingly prepared dishes and the relaxed atmosphere in the evening made the whole day perfect and strengthened the sense of community.
The Bitterwasser Flying Lodge was the main sponsor of the Junior World Gliding Championships, where from August 2 to 17, 2026, around 80 pilots from 22 nations competed for the titles in the Standard and Club classes. The grand prize for the JWGC winners was a one-week stay at the lodge, including travel and an airplane.
Largely unnoticed by the public, the 5th Red Bull Global Aerial Performance Camp 2026 took place in Bitterwasser, Namibia, from April 21, 2026, to April 30, 2026. A few videos and pictures on this page offer a glimpse of the athletes and their performances.
