2024 is revving up!

The new year starts and the thermals take off again! High lability ensures good thermals, which provide pilots with many exciting experiences.

On 4.1.23, a line of thunderstorms developed early in the west, forcing pilots to find their way between the overdevelopments. Thanks to the continuous weather updates from the flight office via radio and WhatsApp, the flights could be planned ahead.

The weather was more stable in the east, with triangles extending to over 1000 kilometers in this direction.

For the second day in a row, a large sandstorm moved from the west towards Bitterwasser in the afternoon. This storm, which could be used as a convergence, made it possible to fly in special conditions until sunset and to land at sunset.

Already 19 flights in January exceeded 1000 kilometers! It can go on like this in the last month of the season!

We mourn the loss of Dieter Schwenk

As a member of the Bitterwasser Board of Directors and CFI of the Soaring Society of Namibia, Dieter has rendered outstanding services to gliding in Namibia.

Sitting at his favorite spot in Bitterwasser, he has left us forever.

We will not forget him.

Season final

The season in Bitterwasser is slowly drawing to a close.
One by one, the gliders are being loaded into the containers. And still some teams fly over 1000 kilometers every day.
