The annual 1000 km training camp in Bitterwasser has once again started exceptionally well.

In the first days, our junior pilots were introduced to the impressive landscape, the high cloud bases, final glides from the east against a strong sea breeze and at times challenging blue thermals.
The first eight days are dedicated to Nils Zitzelsberger and Jan Schulz.

Together with coach Arne Röpling, they alternate flying the 4i and 3i: a Ventus 3M and an EB 28, high performance gliders that truly come into their own in Bitterwasser.
Soon, the first early-start day is scheduled, with the initial leg planned towards the northwest. Preparation is focused yet relaxed; safety always comes first. The atmosphere is fantastic. Our juniors fly as if they have been at home in this paradise for years and both complete a beautiful declared 1000 km FAI flight.
In a few days, Felix Herold, the proud winner of the Bitterwasser Cup, and Andreas Weitz will arrive to continue the adventure. From that moment on, Jan Knishewski will take over as coach.
Thanks to the Wilfried Grosskinsky Foundation, three junior pilots each year have the opportunity to fly, learn and grow in Bitterwasser. And thanks to Bitterwasser itself – with the Bitterwasser Cup and their unmatched support – all of this becomes reality.
Our talented juniors are enjoying every moment. They make maximum use of the beautiful weather, learn the fascinating weather phenomena of the Kalahari and discover each day anew how far they can go.
And believe me, whoever wins this prize and gets to fly here will not lose their smile anytime soon.
